Year 1

Belmont and Bellarine

Year One is a time when students develop a deeper understanding of Christianity and living in God’s world. The students further develop their personal character by sharing in Assemblies, Devotions and general interaction. Through the sharing of the Bible the students come to recognize the extent of God’s love as seen in the story of Creation and also in the love He displays for His people.

Year One continues to build upon the skills introduced at the Prep. level. The students develop a greater independence and confidence in their reading and are able to apply their growing sight vocabulary to a range of texts.

In writing, the Year one students are now composing some detailed stories recounting personal experiences and are using basic punctuation. They are spelling many familiar words accurately and make very good efforts at recording unfamiliar words.

Hands-on experience in Numeracy enables students to develop skills in using the processes. In Integrated Studies students develop an awareness of the world around them through studies in the areas of Science, Health and Humanities.
