Year 8

Highton and Bellarine

Year 8 provides students with a wide variety of studies as they develop their  academic abilities, specific interests and creative flair.  It  is the year when students are introduced to a broad range of elective studies  which can assist them in determining their abilities and interests for future study. Such studies include Marine Studies, Multi-media, the Arts , Environmental Science and Advanced Musicianship.  Alongside these, students continue core academic studies in greater depth and complexity

In addition, Mill Valley Ranch camp, Project 808, East Timor Day, the World Vision 40 Hour Famine, community service projects as well as Music and Sporting events are just a few of the many varied activities offered to Year 8 students throughout 2008.

Many of the activities at the East Timor Fair at Bellarine Campus were led by the  Project Care Committee, giving our student leaders invaluable experience and an opportunity to exercise and grow their faith through acts of service.

Project 808 provided Bellarine students with an off campus learning environment in Pt Lonsdale over a period of three days. Students worked in three main research and study groups, consisting of Marine, History and Environmental. Each group had an individual focus with relevant learning outcomes. The ‘hands on’ learning opportunities also provided the students with an appreciation and basic understanding of different vocations and possible future areas of study.

Each year, as part of Christian Education at Highton, the Year 8 students at Highton visit Aged Care Homes around Geelong.  All students talked about the rewarding time they had by visiting and talking with the elderly in our local area.
