Back Creek Updates
Projects Challenge Girls at 'Back Creek'
Rural Four girls contributed enthusiastically to the life of the farm, learning a variety of skills in the process. In addition to the daily farm activities, the girls have been involved with extra projects such as construction of the Children’s Garden, reforestation around the property and fence restoration. Due to deterioration, original hand split wooden fence posts cut from trees in the area are being replaced with alternating steel and treated pine posts. The ‘Back Creek’ fencing project will eventually cover ten kilometres.

'Bacon and Eggers' Excel at Scotsburn
New signage recently erected at ‘Back Creek’ farm in Scotsburn highlights the availability of eggs and fresh vegetables for sale on the property. The egg program is an integral part of the rural experience, in which the ‘Bacon and Eggers’ take responsibility for care of the free range chickens and sale of the eggs. The Year Nine students enjoy this particular role as they follow the complete sequence, beginning at dawn as they let the chickens out and ending at dusk as they secure them for the night. Taking feed and water to the chickens involves driving the mule which is generally considered to be a highlight of the experience. After collecting the eggs, students carefully clean, grade and pack them ready for sale, whilst ensuring that the accounts are maintained. Eggs are sold on the property, at market and at the Middle and Senior School Campuses. ____________________________________________
Working for Hot Water at Back Creek
At the Rural Studies experience at 'Back Creek, Scotsburn the students sort, stack and saw the timber that they have collected from the property. The Homesteading Work Team is responsible for maintaining the boiler which provides hot water to the kitchen, bathrooms and cabins. The hot showers made all their efforts worthwhile.
