Mathematics

Mathematics at Christian College acknowledges the order and pattern of God’s creation. It pervades all aspects of our lives as socially responsible citizens, both at work and at home. Competence in Mathematics allows students to develop a deeper understanding of their world through discovery, inquiry and problem solving.

From an early age, the foundations of mathematical skills are established in a variety of ways and methods to cater for the different ways in which students learn. A recent innovation for Years Prep to 7 has been the College purchase of the Mathletics program in which students can complete mathematical tasks at their level on computer to consolidate their class learning  and then enjoy competitions with other students, either at school or at home.

At all levels teachers draw on the students’ knowledge of the world to ensure that abstract ideas are linked to something familiar. Whilst Mathematics is a core subject throughout each child’s educational journey, advanced studies include the Mathematics Challenge elective in the Middle Schools. Senior mathematics studies include opportunities to take a VCE Unit in Year 10 for able students.

Several classes of Further Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics are taught throughout Senior School with an experienced group of Mathematics staff committed to the achievement of the best possible results at VCE level.
