Humanities

The study of Humanities enables students to develop an understanding of human progress and the ways in which this has impacted on societies over time. The study of such patterns of development at a local, national and international level is vital if our young people are to become our leaders of tomorrow. The importance of our responsibilities and contribution to society as stewards of God’s creation is emphasized.

Humanities studies includes a wide variety of differing subject material, all of which involves students in evaluating and discovering what is important to us as global citizens. Throughout Junior and Middle Schools, local, national and then international societies are studied, from an historical, current and future perpective.

Students gain experience not only in researching different aspects and issues but in communicating their findings to others, both in the classroom and in the community.

As students progress into senior studies, it is vital to distinguish the different elements of study within Humanities - History, Geography and Economics, so that students may choose their VCE courses wisely. VCE studies currently include History,  Legal Studies and Accounting.

Legal Students win Moot Court Cup

Late in Term 3, a number of Year 11 Legal Studies students took part in a Moot Court Competition run by the Geelong Law Association. The students involved had to prepare both Prosecution and Defence cases.  This court room drama was run in the Courtrooms of the Geelong Magistrates’ Court and is always keenly contested amongst the numerous schools in the Geelong Region.
We watched with great pride as the Christian College team qualified for the Grand Final of this competition and then went on to win the coveted (and rather large!) Geelong Law Association Moot Court Cup for 2007.  In addition to this, one of our Year 11 students, James Carrigg, performed most admirably in his role as a Barrister and was awarded Runner-Up in the Ryan Draper Public Speaking Award within the Moot competition.
