At Christian College we are committed to fostering a life long appreciation and love of the arts. The development of the visual literacy of our students is prioritised, as they grow up in an increasingly complex, visual culture.
The Visual Arts are reflective of God’s gift of creativity to us all and one of the main ways that we can express and define ourselves.
The Christian College curriculum from Kindergarten through to VCE offers a diverse range of Art, Technology and Design opportunities for our students across all campuses. Students are challenged in studies of 2 or 3 Dimensional Art, Studio Arts, Visual Communication Design, Product Design and Technology (wood, metals, plastics and textiles), Systems Engineering (electro technologies), Media Studies and Food Technology.
In addition to the core and elective subjects on offer, students are encouraged to participate in numerous extra curricular activities such as gallery and museum visits, afterschool classes and extension programs, intensive weekend courses, College production workshops (costume and set construction/design), community arts projects, exhibitions, artist in residence programs and numerous local and national competitions. All of which allow students to gain a sense of creativity to inspire them outside the classroom.
The faculty is staffed by dedicated, experienced and engaging staff who develop students' skills and encourage them to think creatively and critically. Staff teach students to also be innovate, adaptive and problem solve in a wide variety of subject pathways within the Visual Art, Technologies and Design Faculty.
New and exciting technologies have been recently introduced to the Art, Technology and Design faculty. These include 3D printing, 4-axis Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling and laser cutting. Through these state of the art additions, students can now be actively engaged in creating objects using diverse materials and to the scale and accuracy that previously was not possible.
The annual Arts Show held in term four each year at our Senior Art and Technology Centre, the ‘Villa Paloma’, provides a wonderful opportunity for our students from Kindergarten to Year 12 to showcase and perform their work to the wider community. The Arts Show is a platform to extend the students capabilities, allowing their work to be celebrated by an audience, helping to build confidence and passion.
All teachers in the Art, Technology and Design Faculty are passionate about their respective subject areas, and, as a team are dedicated to fostering within our students, a life-long appreciation and love of Design and The Arts.
