As part of the School Cats program, 3 Geelong Cats players visited 2 Christian College campuses recently.
Middle School hosted Geelong Cats Captain, Joel Selwood who came and spoke to the Year 9 students who chose the ‘Principles of Training’ elective.
‘Principles of Training’ is a subject that prepares students for VCE Physical Education. Students learn about fitness testing, training sessions incorporating different principles, fitness components, anatomy and interplay of the energy systems and have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in practical sessions. A question and answer session was held with Joel that gave the students a great opportunity find out from an elite athlete how these important topics are applied in their sport.
Joel was able to share personal experiences about his training sessions, nutrition, recovery and also share with the students some advice on how to achieve their potential.
Junior School received Travis Varcoe and Nic Bourke from the Geelong Cats Football Club. The players helped run a Footy Clinic with Year 4 students on the oval. The students participated in different activities which focused on a variety of football skills. Exercises included handballing, kicking, marking and quick maneuvering around obstacle courses. These activities kept the students engaged and absorbed in the fun filled afternoon.
