Students in Year 8 at Middle School Highton recently enjoyed an interesting excursion for the new elective ‘Community Service’. The students went to the Geelong Food Bank in North Geelong to help the staff and other volunteers stack shelves and sort eggs in cartons to ensure only clean, whole eggs found their way onto the shelves.
They also went down Eastern Beach foreshore where they picked up rubbish linking in with the upcoming ‘Clean up Australia Day’ on March 3rd.
This valuable elective teaches the students to empathise with the less fortunate and to serve the community with an open and happy heart.
