This week, students in Year 6 from both the Bellarine and Highton Campuses took part in ‘Refugee Day’. This was a special, full-day event in which students had the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and participate in a range of hands-on activities to learn more about the plight of refugees and asylum seekers.
One particular highlight for the students was having the opportunity to hear stories from Shraham, a refugee from Iran. He shared his journey with the students and provided insight into some of the struggles refugees face today.
Other guest speakers from the Asylum Seeker Refugee Centre in Melbourne also shared engaging facts and information surrounding this topic with the students.
It was a rich learning experience for the Year 6 students, not only allowing them to get to know students from another campus, but also giving them a greater understanding of the complex issue surround refugees and asylum seekers.
