The Year 9 Bellarine Writers’ Workshop class attended a full day excursion to Melbourne earlier this month. The purpose of their visit was to take inspiration from their surroundings through character studies, and observe the varied environments they encountered. Sensory and emotive language was a focus of these observations. The particular highlights of the day trip were the meat and dairy halls of the market as well as St. Paul’s Cathedral. Both the students and teachers were immersed into these environments but drew very different experiences from them.
The reflective discussion in class time on the following Monday was very inspiring. The students’ comments on conversations and observations they had were very insightful. The bustling environment and noise of the market and the city centre provided a stark contrast to the quietness of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The reflective discussion on the time spent in the cathedral was extremely valuable.
