The Learning Environment

Underpinned by Christian foundations, our philosophy endeavours to provide each student with a caring and disciplined environment that allows each child to feel valued and secure. Learning occurs both inside and outside the classroom, including in our Barn and Environmental Centre where students take a 'hands-on' role in sharing the responsibilities of animals, vegetable gardens and various sustainability projects.

The Educational Programme

The broad based academic program, along with extra curricula activities which are provided in a community atmosphere, foster a shared ‘partnership’ between the College and families of our students.

Junior School

Located in Drysdale, the Junior School Bellarine Campus,  - Years Prep to 4, the vital foundations of learning are established in a nurturing learning environment. Emphasis is placed on the important development of Literacy and Numeracy skills through a balanced approach using the latest Early Years Learning strategies, the DIPL spelling strategies as well as highly regarded aspects of formal learning.

Caring, enthusiastic staff provide each student with learning opportunities that not only meet the individual strengths and weaknesses of each student, but provide motivational learning experiences that are '‘hands-on" and enjoyable.

In our Junior School, learning is a journey of discovery through our Integrated approach to studies of our Society, The Environment, Wonders of Science and Health issues. Specialist Staff specifically trained in their field of expertise also offer weekly studies in Physical Education, ICT, Art, Music, Library and Japanese.

The Junior School provides each student with a sound base of skills and character development based on Christian values in preparation for the challenges of Middle School studies.

Middle School

The Middle School experience in Years 5 to 9 at the Bellarine Campus commences with a smooth transition into Year 5 of the Middle School . This eliminates the stress and worry of the transfer to a different secondary school at Year 7. Our Middle School provides students with the supportive structure of a Homeroom and Homeroom teachers where a student’s Homeroom teacher provides pastoral care as well as teaching several core subjects. This gives students a familiar and consistent learning environment in which to grow and experience success.

Our consistent student management system creates an atmosphere based on respect for each other and a common focus on development of positive relationships.

Drysdale Middle School students enjoy a wide range of core and elective subjects, which provide a great foundation on which to build and develop into the Senior years of education.

Students have wide ranging educational opportunities in academic, artistic, musical and sporting pursuits providing challenging and engaging activities based around clear guidelines and consistent expectations.

One of the highlights of the Middle School programme is the five weeks live-in farm experience for Year 9 students at our ’Back Creek’ campus at Scotsburn. The challenges are to accept responsibilty within a team and a workplace, and to recognize the need for perseverance to achieve success. Gaining independent living skills also makes this an invaluable teenage experience.

Community Involvement

It is important for Bellarine students to be involved in community life and service in the local area. Local festivals, church services and environmental projects are ways in which our students become involved, whilst the Year 8 Links programme gives students ‘first-hand’ experiences of the vital service organizations that are an intrinsic part of a thriving community.
