This morning, Sunday 18th November, along with over 11,000 others, I participated in the 2012 Run Geelong event to support the Childrens’ Ward at The Geelong Hospital.
As I pounded my way through the 6km run, (some braved a 12km effort whilst others completed a 6km walk) I was touched by the true sense of community and good will amongst those enjoying the event as well as those giving encouragement along the way.
It was equally wonderful to see the incredible support from the large number of College families for such an event. As I was struggling up a few of the hills it was very nice to hear words of encouragement as I tried to keep my weary frame moving toward the finish line, saying ‘Come on Mr. Mac!’
Participation in this event involved students, staff and parents from all our campuses including a number of former students. In fact over 250 participants registered under the Christian College name which also meant that our College had the highest school participation. I am grateful to the Physical Education staff who promoted this event and co-ordinated our involvement.
Through registering under the College name additional funds are provided to the College which will be allocated toward our projects in East Timor.
I believe Christian College is an important part of the Geelong community. Our students, staff and families make a wonderful contribution to our local region. This was once again the case in the Run Geelong effort.
I am indeed very proud to be a part of our College community. And I was equally very happy to see the finish line at the end of my run. Well done and congratulations to everyone who supported Run Geelong this year.
