The Classroom Comes to Life!
To conclude the Year 5 Biology studies on Fresh Water Ecosystems students participated in a field trip to the local St Augustine’s Dam. With the help of the Corangamite Waterwatch Coordinator, teachers and parent volunteers, the students conducted tests to investigate the health of the water system including: pH, salt and turbidity levels. Fortunately, the results were positive with the dam providing a healthy environment for the many plants and animals that live in the habitat. Then as the students examined the diversity of animal life in samples from the dam the excitement was palpable as they identified backswimmers and tadpoles and water-mites and even small fish. Real Science in the great outdoors!
