Geelong Food Relief Centre - Year 5 Excursion

During Christian Education this term, the Year 5 students have been studying about different forms of poverty. With this information, we wanted students to be able to give back to the community and support those in need. Students did extra chores around the house and earned non-perishable items to donate. On Tuesday, 6 September 2016, the Year 5 students were able to take their donations to the Geelong Food Relief Centre.

While we were there, they were able to see where the food goes and learn about the people that use this service. In addition, they learned how the relief centre operates using a voucher system. It was an eye-opening experience for the Year 5 students and they learned that the centre helps over 33,400 people each year, receiving more than 650 tons of donations.
