Christian College has been involved with the Adopt-a-Family program since its inception in 1992. In that time we have provided Christmas for over 500 families. This has been a wonderful way for our students to reach out to those who, for a variety of reasons, are less fortunate than themselves.
It truly embodies the principle of Christian giving, where the students will not receive personal thanks for their efforts, rather they will know that they have done something worthwhile for other human beings.
These days the gap between the haves and the have-nots is widening and we, at Christian College, are encouraging our students to develop a sense of social justice, to be prepared to share what they have with others.
As a school community we have been really proud to be involved with the Adopt-a-Family program and its commitment to helping those in need. Every class at Middle school will be allocated a ‘family’ to adopt. Each student is asked to bring along an item of food for a Christmas hamper, and a small gift for a member of the family. The students will be allocated the person by their Homeroom teacher.
As the supermarkets and shops already have Christmas items in stock, we ask that, if possible, your child could bring along the food item as soon as possible. Each class teacher will discuss with the students the appropriate goods to fill the hamper.
We encourage all students to be involved, however, we understand if you would prefer that your child did not participate. Please notify your child’s homeroom teacher so that alternative arrangements can be made.
