Science Studies of Light

Let there be LIGHT!

Year 5 and Year 9 are studying various aspects of light in Science this term. It’s exciting to witness those 'lightbulb moments', as students conquer the skill of accurately drawing and measuring angles of light through lenses and other transparent materials.

More powerful learning has taken place as students teach each other, and also explain real-life situations using their new found skills and knowledge. For instance, ask a Year 9 student, 'where do you aim a spear if hunting for fish? Or ask a Year 5 student, 'what was a shadow stick used for?

They were fascinated that the shadow not only changed length quite dramatically during the day, but also that the angle of the shadow changed!
