VCAL News

As part of their Work Related Skills, the Year 11 VCAL students had an opportunity to view a CFA fire tanker first hand.

They considered the fire tanker as a workplace. Students identified the safety equipment and personal protective equipment used to fight fires. They also acknowledged some of the many possible risks and hazards associated with operating such equipment in a wild fire scenario. Students then participated in a class discussion, watched a video on grass fires and completed a written report on their findings.

The Year 12 Senior VCAL students recently visited the Salvation Army branch in Bourke Street, Melbourne where they participated in the 'Tour and Talk' program on the subject of homelessness. This involved the students undertaking activities associated with the causes of homelessness. The students also participated in a 40-minute walk around Melbourne where they viewed some of the most common places that the homeless sleep out overnight. They found the activity very engaging and informative. This activity will form part of their Personal Development program.

Nearly all of our students are now out working in their chosen industries on Fridays. We now just need two placements that involve Beauty and Make up and one for Fashion. If you know of anyone in business who may be willing to help support these students on a Friday, please contact the Student Office. Your help would be much appreciated.
