The central aim at Christian College Geelong is to provide our students with ‘The Learning That Matters’.
Our goal is to help students identify fully with God’s purpose and meaning of their lives – so they can directly contribute to making our world a better place.
At our College, we call this doing ‘good work’ – and along with our five core values of Faith, Grace, Hope, Love and Truth – this provides the foundation for our Vision Statement:
“At the end of their journey at Christian College, our students will be ready to make a positive difference to the lives of others, through ‘good work’ that is excellent, ethical and engaged in local, national and global contexts.”
A successful student at our College is not simply one who gets a good job, and is blessed with wealth and possessions. Nor is a student’s time with us defined by a ‘score’ at the end of their studies. We believe education is a journey of growth, where students transform into not only good learners, but good people. Our College promotes ‘serving’, hoping to inspire students to make life better for other people, not just themselves.
Our students are encouraged to become active participants in their own educational journey, as they are given greater autonomy to learn and a voice to direct where that learning might seek relevance.
We are very proud of our reputation for providing an excellent education, balanced with strong Christian foundations and supported by the highest-quality of pastoral care. The sense of belonging that our students, staff and parents enjoy at our College on a daily basis has created a truly unique educational environment throughout all our campuses and kindergartens.
I warmly encourage you to join our Christian College family, and experience this remarkable journey for yourself.
Last week I visited each of the new facilities that have been completed since the 2010 College promotional DVD was produced. To say that the new library resource centre at Senior School and the multi-purpose sporting and performing arts facilities at Bellarine and Middle School have had an incredible impact on teaching and learning for our students would be quite an understatement.
Celebrating 'Our Brand'
The recent provision of the new multi - purpose facilities at the Highton and Bellarine campuses provide the space to allow whole school assemblies to take place for the first time since the very early years of our College's journey.
End of Term 3
It is hard to believe that the end of term is upon us already and what a busy term it has been. The recent addition of In Focus clearly demonstrates the many varied and productive learning experiences our students enjoy.
Our Inspirational Teachers
This term a great deal of my time has been involved in planning for the future. Part of this is closely associated with and working alongside a number of our staff, ranging from Heads or Deputy Heads of Campus, Directors of Teaching and Learning, classroom teachers, sports coaches or instrumental music teachers.
Annual Staff Retreat
The Annual Staff Retreat held at the conclusion of Term two has become a significant professional development tool for our staff over the years. It provides our teaching and non-teaching staff with the opportunity to share time in Christian fellowship, professional growth and to spend time together getting to know each other better as well as celebrating significant contributions that individual staff have made over the years.
2012 Debutante Balls
It was fitting that in the 20th year that our College has conducted Debutante Balls that these were held on the College property in the newly completed Middle School Sports and Aquatic Centre at Highton.
The transformation of this first class sporting facility into a glamorous venue befitting any special occasion was a credit to the staff of the Senior School and the College Major Events Team.
Opening of Christian College Bellarine Centre for Sport and Performing Arts
The Official Opening and Dedication of the new Christian College Bellarine Centre for Sport and Performing Arts was a wonderful celebration of 16 years of community for that campus. It has been a challenge for me to find adequate words to describe the joy and sense of pride I felt being present to see the current students and families appreciating the unprecedented provision as a result of combined contribution from the Federal Government and the vision and commitment of the College Board.
I am writing this whilst returning on a College bus with 18 amazing young people, 2 former students (as leaders), a one stop fix it man (nothing's too much trouble for Greg Warren our bus driver) and our trip mother ever resourceful, passionate class teacher Jan Strauch.
A Day of Celebration and Significance
On Friday 9 March, 2012 the College celebrated the Service of Dedication of our new Sports and Aquatic Centre at the Highton Middle School. This facility comprising of a gymnasium, indoor heated swimming pools, circuit room, classrooms, offices and change facilities is something that has been dreamed of for many years in the past.
The year has commenced on a most positive note in many respects. I have been delighted to observe from the very first day a wonderful sense of purpose, warmth and cohesion across all of our College Campuses.
Congratulations 2011 Graduates
The onset of hot summer weather at the end of the school break seems to be a common event. As I have been at school over the last week or two getting ready for the New Year I had been grateful for the efforts of those behind the scenes that work to ensure that our College is ready for students to arrive on day one.
Congratulations Class of 2011
The long awaited date for our Year 12 students to receive their VCE Results has arrived. I am delighted to see that so many of our students have obtained ATAR ranking to allow them to pursue their future aspirations.
I wish to congratulate all of our Year 12 students on their excellent results.
Orientation and Transition into 2012
Recently our College conducted a highly successful Orientation Day across each of the campuses. This day provides a wonderful opportunity for new students to visit and experience time in their new school and our existing students the chance to meet new teachers and friends at their next level of schooling.
Christian College Visual and Performing Arts Festival 2011
This year our College combined the collaborative creative efforts of the Visual Arts, Music and Drama programs to create our first annual Visual and Performing Art Festival.
