The Christian College Geelong Foundation
The Christian College Foundation was established in 2015 with the stated goal of providing a funding source (independent of student fees) which would be used to support students from families with disadvantaged backgrounds or those experiencing particular hardship. It also aims to fund new initiatives, locally and globally, to enhance the educational program of our students. Ensuring the long-term viability of the College in changing funding climates, is another key mission of the Foundation.
Community Access Scholarship Program
The Christian College Geelong Foundation Board, under the direction of its Chairman, Michael Peck, is proud to support the Community Access Scholarship Program as its first major project. For many years, Christian College Geelong has made provision to support students from disadvantaged circumstances by providing them with enrolment opportunities. The Foundation is seeking to source and increase ongoing financial contributions for the following programs:
- The Salvation Army Music Scholarship - partnering with the Salvation Army and their programs such as 'Just Brass', this scholarship identifies young people from family circumstances and socio-economic situations that would ordinarily preclude them from enrolling at Christian College.
- The Cultural Scholarship - through partnerships with our local churches, this scholarship extends the opportunity for young people from refugee backgrounds to join our College family. These students bring an incredibly generous spirit, joy and heart to the life of our community.
- Sponsored Student Placements - through this bursary program, we can assist our students in maintaining a stable, educational experience, even when life presents unexpected challenges.
Students and staff currently involved in the Community Access Scholarship Program have endorsed its effectiveness:
Words cannot begin to describe how many opportunities I have received from the Christian College Geelong scholarship...I have been offered opportunities that I would have never thought would happen to me, such as becoming a College Prefect and developing a very large knowledge in music. - Scholarship student
Having cultural diversity in the classroom is so important for us and benefits all students. They share some of their story and this has a profound impact. The students have an incredible and infectious work ethic which 'rubs off' on our students and sets a new standard… - Year Level Co-ordinator, Highton.
Resource and Community Liaison Officer
The Foundation supports the Cultural Scholarship Program by funding a Resource and Community Liaison Officer. The Liaison Officer works directly with students, their families and supports staff, breaking down cultural barriers.
Other Giving Opportunities:
East Timor
Christian College became involved in assisting Timor Leste in 2002. In 2003 when Geelong was paired with the sister city of Viqueque, a Christian College Timor Leste Friendship Committee was formed. It is no small achievement that we are into our second 10 year period of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Viqueque region. We continue to work meaningfully by providing teacher training, assisting with the refurbishment of schools along with providing employment and training opportunities.
Bequests
A bequest in your Will to the Christian College Geelong Foundation is a gift that will ensure Christian College Geelong continues its provision of excellent educational opportunities for future generations.
Building Fund
Christian College strives to provide the best possible learning environments for our students, thus demonstrating our ongoing commitment to realising the potential of all our students. Alumni
The Christian College Foundation highly values a continuing connection with former students of our College. We aim to build a vibrant Alumni community through our engagement with College activities and events, sharing of news, reunions and connecting former graduates with our current student body.
An Opportunity to Contribute
We look forward to College families, former students, and those in our community who identify with the benefits of these programs, to partner with the Foundation to ensure that young people from all walks of life have the opportunity to experience and benefit from a Christian College education.
