Year 8 GEOS Camp Preparation
In 2016, all Year 8 students are participating in a completely NEW subject called Geography, Environmental and Outdoor Studies, or GEOS.
After fantastic success in Semester 1, three new classes at Highton are now busily preparing for the highlight of the program, a four-day kayaking, bushwalking and mountain biking camp in the Great Otway National Park. At present, students are investigating human impacts on natural spaces whilst practising their mountain biking skills alongside the Barwon River. In addition to strengthening their BLP skills of noticing, imitating, interdepending and persevering, students are engaging with critical outdoor concepts including assessing risk, embracing challenge and minimising our impact on the natural environment. The camp itself will take place in the first week of Term 4 around Anglesea and Lorne, when the students’ planning, self-sufficiency and collaboration skills will be put to the test!
