The Careers Spot

‘The Building Trade Needs You’ - Master Builders Orientation Day

Together with the Master Builders Association of Victoria, The Gordon has developed a free programme which is being made available to our Year 10 & 11 students who are interested in a career in the building industry.

The day will include a bus trip to both a domestic and a commercial building site in the Geelong region. Master Builders will speak with the students and tradesmen will share of their experiences in the industry, qualifications, skills and interests important to succeed in the industry and pathway options.

Buses will take students from The Gordon to the sites – they will leave The Gordon around 9.30am (to be confirmed) and return between 12.30pm and 1.00pm, after which a BBQ and tour of facilities is being provided. The day will finish at The Gordon at 2.00pm.

Parents are asked to drop their child off at The Gordon and then either pick them up, or allow for them to take public transport home.

Year 10 and 11 students, male and female, are invited to register an interest in this day. This event is primarily aimed at VCE/VET and VCAL students either currently studying in the building industry area, or for Year 10s, those students who have applied to study in this area in 2017.

It is possible, depending on the numbers from schools throughout Geelong, that if you are in Year 11 and have an interest in tertiary study in the area of Construction Management, there could be the possibility for you to also attend this day. Whilst the day is not primarily aimed at those planning on undertaking university study it is an opportunity to learn of the industry.  Please feel free to register to attend and we shall keep you updated.

Details/Registration of Interest forms are available here or from the Student Office at Senior School.

The closing date for the return of these forms to Senior School is Friday, September 16.

If you wish to scan a completed registration form it can then be emailed to me between Saturday, September 17 and Monday, September 19.  An indication of students wishing to attend is due Monday, September 19.
