State Victoria Solar Model Vehicle Challenge - Year 9

Energy of the Future.

During the semester, in Systems and Technology, year 9 students have designed and constructed a solar model car. The weekend, of 15th and 16th of October, saw these very enthusiastic students participating in a State Victoria Solar Model Vehicle Challenge (VSMC) at Scienceworks in Melbourne.

The VSMC is an incorporated not-for-profit association, comprising people from many backgrounds and areas of interest; educators, ranging from university lecturers to school principals, technologists from engineers of various disciplines, computer and solar systems specialists, students at various levels and people whom are passionate about the benefits to the students that participate in the challenge.

The event has been running since 1990, the cars compete on a “figure 8” track of approximately 86 metres in length. There were hundreds of students representing all different parts of the state and the standards were set very high and our students were very competitive. Most importantly it was an honour to witness the amount of learning taking place and the way in which our students conducted themselves. For more information on the event please visit:
