Fiction by Genre

This year our library has moved through the process of putting all of our fiction books into genre. Our choice of genre headings reflects our students' reading interests and just like browsing books in a book shop or the Geelong Regional Library, students can now browse books according to their particular interest such as sports, humour, science fiction and fantasy to name a few.

Studies have shown there are many benefits to having your fiction arranged by genre.  Students can find the book they want to read more easily and quickly. They can independently find similar books or books within the same series and it allows students to identify their reading likes.

From our point of view having fiction arranged by genres can encourage discussion with students as to what books they are reading, peer recommendations and often this has led to an increased borrowing among the students.

Which genre will you choose?
