Year 9 Shrine Excursion

This week the Year 9 students visited the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne for a guided Education Tour. In History they are studying World War 1 and each student has an individual soldier or nurse who served to research. They have spent the past few weeks deciphering actual service records and at the Shrine they had the opportunity to see and try on items of uniform and see a boat which was used to land soldiers at Gallipoli. Students also experienced a time of remembrance and reflection in the sanctuary. This excursion was a great opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the experiences of the Australian men and women who served in World War 1. It also assisted them to reflect on the reasons for war and to honour the service and sacrifice of those who forged our nation. Ms. Rebecca Wellins
