Year 9 - Pop Up Cafe
Yesterday, our Year 9 Highton Food Studies students opened a 'Pop-Up Café' during lunchtime, selling food items they had designed to our College community.
It aimed to highlight 21st century learning, with the student driven project encouraging them to problem solve in a collaborative way. It also introduced the students to the many and varied aspects of running a small business - not just the design, production and selling of food, but cash handling, marketing, promotion, OH&S regulations and shift management, just to name a few.
It was also a co-collaboration project with the Year 8 Product Design students, providing the furnishings, the Product Design and Technology students making some seating, and the band, 'Suspended 4th', creating a great atmosphere on the day. The real-life café also forged links into our community by supplying leftover food to a local charity. Congratulations to all the students working together on this project and we look forward to seeing how our students develop this opportunity.
