Project Care - Helping the homeless and raising funds for Rivers Gift
This year, the SRC leaders of our College are taking on the role of initiating and implementing Project Care fundraisers and awareness campaigns.
In this term, we have planned to help youth homelessness in our community. We would like your support in asking if you would be kind enough to donate some mini toiletries, such as toothbrushes, toothpastes, conditioners and soaps. Nothing too big, just something that is light and manageable. For example, you may have items you collected from visiting a hotel.
The SRC’s from each class will collect these items and make them into care packs to give to people who need them most. We encourage you to get behind this cause. We would love your help. Please bring your items to school any time before Wednesday, March 29.
Today we are wearing blue and white to raise funds for 'Rivers Gift'. Rivers Gift is a charity and running group that raise awareness and money for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), which is an illness that affects about 80 babies a year in Australia alone. All the money raised will be sent to Harvard University, which will be used to help find a cure for SIDS.
Alex and Karl are a local family who were affected by SIDS. Their son, River, died at only 128 days old (July 2, 2011 – November 7, 2011). Alex and Karl then started the group Rivers Gift to raise money for research. So far they have raised $550,000, with the hope that one day there will be a cure for SIDS and that no other family would go through this again.
If you would like more information on this cause, please visit http://www.riversgift.com/
We encourage everyone to bring $2 or more.
