A welcome message from the Head of Senior School
Welcome to Term 2
I wish to welcome all our students, families and staff back for what will be a busy term. We completed our last term with a very vibrant Easter Service. I must congratulate our Chaplains, Lena Johnstone and Corey Bolton, for their considerable input. Mandy Calderwood presented a challenging drama piece, which focussed on the choices we make and how we need to stay away from temptation. What may appear to be enticing, may lead to misery.
Student Learning Conferences
Our Student Learning Conferences are on Tuesday, 2nd May and Thursday, 4th May, taking place in the Senior School Library and Flynn classrooms. Information is available in this edition of 'The Vine' for you to book appointments. The purpose of these conferences is not only for you to receive teacher feedback, but for the teacher to find out from you how they can better teach your child. This partnership is vital.
2017 College Production 'Peter Pan'
Every two years, Mandy Calderwood directs the College musical. The cast is drawn from Years 4 to 12. It is not only the cast, but those who freely give their time to play the music, make the costumes and put on the make-up that make these productions so memorable. Special mention should be made of the set building. Antony Benson has spent an incredible amount of time building and painting the sets. This has been completed at the Villa. Antony deserves the highest praise, given the difficult brief of building a pirate ship! Please ensure you book tickets at GPAC to see the show, as they are selling fast.
This term we have many exciting things to look forward to. In Week 3, we have our “respectful relations” program that will focus on how we see ourselves and others. The theme is respect for all, in that if one respects themselves, then they will see themselves in a positive light - rather than a negative one. I ask that during this week you ask your son or daughter what they are learning.
We have our annual House Music competition this term, and the Houses shall commence their rehearsals soon. This is a wonderful opportunity to build on the spirit that is so abundant in every House.
One of the highlights of the year is the Debutante Ball. This year, they are on Friday, 2nd June and Saturday, 3rd June at the SAC. Rehearsals have been underway for several weeks, and the Year 11 students are really seeing improvement.
