Step Back In Time - Year 1 and 2

With much excitement and many 'oohs and ahhs', the Year 1 and 2 students travelled back in time to 1884 as they toured Werribee Mansion.

Students experienced first-hand what it was like to live 130 years ago as they journeyed to the farm, laundry room and the different rooms in the mansion. In the children’s bedroom, the youngsters participated in rotations, which allowed them to experience what it might be like to be a child in the 1800s. Students wrote on slate boards, played with Victorian toys and tried on Victorian clothes. Many students were surprised by the differences between their life today and the lives of children many years ago.

Prior to the excursion, students completed a thinking routine called 'See, Think, Wonder'. Students looked at photos and recorded what they could see, what the photo made them think and any wonderings sparked by the photos. It was incredible to observe and listen to the students make links between photos and their experiences at the mansion, as well as make many new discoveries throughout the day.

Our time at the Werribee Mansion was a rich experience, enjoyed by all.
