Year 9 Japanese - Learning Kanji

The students in the Year 9 Japanese class have been learning 'Kanji'.

Kanji is the most complicated of the three Japanese scripts (the other two are Hiragana and Katakana.) The students practised Kanji through Japanese brush calligraphy, 'Shodo'. By using calligraphy pens, the students wrote Kanji with a slow movement, following the stroke order and paying attention to detail and balance. They appreciated Kanji, not only as a writing system, but also as an art form.

The students selected their favourite Kanji characters and wrote them on the Mother’s Day cards that they created.
