Community Visits - Our World Finke and VCAL
On Thursday morning at 6am, the second Year 10 'Our World' class left for their stay at Finke. It will be a highlight of their year and I have had the pleasure of speaking with those students who were part of the previous Central Australia program.
Speaking with two students prior to their departure, I asked them: what are you expecting? Their response was a mixture of pure excitement and a willingness to listen and learn. I felt this a wonderful response from both of them.
Our College is very different to others in how we interact with outside communities.
Recently, our VCAL class visited Newcomb Park Primary School, who suffered a fire that left their school devastated. It was such a learning experience for our students to sit with and learn from their students. We were seen as positive role models for these students and this, in turn, bolstered how our VCAL students see themselves.
We talk about 'The Learning that Matters' and I see the above as clear examples of that.
