From the Head of Senior School

The term is well underway and the Year 12 students are working well. The VCAL students are fully engaged with their learning and work placements, with many having their career path decided and in place.

The Year 12 VCE students, and Year 11 students undertaking a Unit 3 and 4 subject, have “SACs a plenty”. It is a difficult time, and managing that time while keeping a level head, is paramount. Each year, this period of time presents challenges.

What can parents do to help?

This is a question we receive on a weekly basis and there is no “one size that fits all”.

Good advice is to support your child by ensuring they are working regularly. Good work is a result of a habit. I recommend a homework or study timetable be drawn up and placed on the fridge so that all can see; a time to commence and a time to finish. The working place needs to be quiet and parents and guardians are encouraged to provide drinks and snacks so they do not have to disturb their child’s train of thought.

Good sleep is most important and there are benefits in changing pillows and turning mattresses over to support a better night’s sleep. Headaches are often a sign of poor sleep or dehydration.

Our teachers are in the best position to support you and please email them, or me, if ever we can assist.

The VCE is a marathon, not a sprint.

Good luck.

East Timor Trivia Night

The annual East Timor Trivia Night is on Friday, 11th August in the Geelong West Town Hall. The aim is to raise funds for the school in East Timor, which we support through student and staff visits.

We require donations of all kinds, and please contact me if you can help. I am willing to come and talk to you and explain the great work done by the College and how it relies on the support of our Christian College community.

Thanking you all in advance.

Volunteers Wanted

The Senior School canteen is a wonderful place that serves our students so well. Heather Smith, the miracle worker who ensures our students are never hungry, needs help.

Help is required on Thursdays and Fridays. It is a great opportunity to assist, and know that you are doing something the community really appreciates.

Please email Heather on h.smith@ccg.vic.edu.au or ring the Senior School Office and ask for me.

I thank you in advance for considering this.
