The Power of Words - Year 5 'Wellness Wednesdays'
‘Wellness Wednesday’ has been a new initiative in the Year 5 devotion program this year, with the aim to instil in our students a strong sense of their value in God, how we ought to love and treat others, and to equip them with practical social and emotional tools.
For three weeks, ‘Wellness Wednesday’ takes on a specific topic, with the current rotation looking at the ‘power of words’. Each Wednesday, the homeroom group rotates through the three homeroom teachers. Mrs Brame works with the students to explore and unpack the topic. Mr Kehler looks at the Biblical applications of the topic, and Mrs Lowe practises role plays with small groups. Naomi Gibbons, our Chaplain, also supports our students and homeroom teachers on these days, working with smaller focus groups.
Using the acronym T.H.I.N.K for this rotation, students have been learning about the positive and negative affects words can have on themselves and each other. Students have been challenged to reflect on whether their words are True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and Kind (T.H.I.N.K).
