VCAL Students of the Week

Year 11 Amelia Kearney

Meeting other nannies through my VET course and work placement has inspired me to live out my dream of being a nanny in Europe and all around the world. Each week I go to The Gordon on Wednesday afternoon to study Certificate III in Childcare. Having younger family members and always being around young children has given me a passion for working with children. At VET, I learn how to connect with the children, what to do if any of the children have an allergic reaction, how to play with them, and many other things. I have been able to apply what I have learnt at VET at my work placement each Friday - First Steps Childcare. I play with the children, organise group activities, snacks and lunch. I have found studying VCAL and VET is helping me work towards my career goals.

Year 12 Louis Martinez

My career of interest is Fitter and Turner. I have two shared work placements, Aikman Engineering and Austeng, that I go to on Fridays. On Wednesday afternoons, I go to The Gordon to study Certificate II Engineering/Mechanical, where I have learnt how to weld, use lathes, mills, and other such machinery. I have been able to apply what I have learnt at VET at my work placement by using new skills to machine components. I like being in the workplace, gaining experience and making a good reputation for myself. VCAL and VET are great if you want to go into a trade career.
