Winter Warmers - Year 6 Science

Have you ever wondered if bubble wrap might keep your feet warmer than socks? Our Year 6 students might be able to answer that for you.

This term in Science, the Year 6 students have undertaken an investigation into materials. In this unit, students have learnt about what materials are, the properties of materials and how we use different materials to suit our many different needs.

This unit has seen students design their own experiment, where they are testing the insulation efficiency of different materials. Students have tested materials such as socks, school blazers, lunchboxes, foil and bubble wrap to see how effectively they prevent heat loss. It has been so amazing to see these students design their own experiment from start to finish, and some have certainly seen some interesting and unexpected results, but don't just take it from me:

"I really enjoyed our experiment on insulation this term. It was a learning experience; fun but also challenging. This was a very good experiment because the result was always unexpected; it made you think. For me, the result was not at all what I thought it would be. It made me want to understand more. Working with a partner was really good because it meant you had two perspectives" - Angelica Lawrence
