Year 3 Learn about Tessellations and Flip, Slide, Turn

The Year 3 students have been exploring and manipulating 2D shapes this week.

The students have learnt about the ways in which we describe the dimensions of 2D and 3D shapes. They were given the opportunity to explore these shapes by flipping, sliding, turning and creating tessellating patterns.

This exploration involved using concrete materials, manipulatives and ICT. Some of the vocabulary that was used throughout this lesson included: sides, vertices, faces, closed shapes, tessellation, rhombus, parallel, corners, reverse, opposite, symmetrical, repeating patterns and mirror image.
