Student Leadership - Geelong Healthy Children’s Network Breakfast

On Thursday, 8th June, we had the opportunity to attend the Geelong Healthy Children’s Network Breakfast at Barrabool Hills Baptist Church.

This event was held to inform and educate students and teachers from a variety of schools around Geelong about being healthy active schools. There were two presentations, Claudia Strugnell from the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention, and Bluearth.

Claudia spoke about childhood obesity, getting active and how an unhealthy lifestyle starts from a young age. She reinforced the importance of getting 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day and maintaining a well-balanced diet. Bluearth encouraged us to enjoy being active, and led us in some simple activities to get our bodies moving.

We have placed a number of posters around the school that promote having a healthy lifestyle. We understand that one of the factors that influences healthy food choices is our families. Please find attached some resources that may provide you with some ideas to pack a ‘healthy lunchbox’.
