The Jacob Marsden Seminar Room
The sad passing of Jacob Marsden in 2016 following a brave and inspirational battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness, had a profound impact on the Christian College community.
Jacob enrolled at Christian College in Prep at the Bellarine Campus and continued his journey through the College until he passed away on the eve of his final VCE exams. Jacob's life and his genuine Christian faith touched and moved many of his peers, teachers and families at the College throughout the years. His courageous fight and dedication to complete his Year 12 studies enabled his brother Joshua to accept his Graduation scroll during an emotional ceremony at Costa Hall in November last year.
Principal of Christian College, Mr Glen McKeeman, initiated the idea of naming the Seminar Room in the Senior School Library in Jacob's memory, as this was a space that Jacob frequently used during his time at Senior School while completing his work, or working with members of staff who supported him.
"After Jacob passed away, I kept looking for Jacob as I walked by the conference room and it occurred to me that it would be a lovely way to remember someone who we all loved", Mr McKeeman shared.
The Seminar Room, now known as 'The Jacob Marsden Seminar Room', was dedicated yesterday in front of members of the Marsden family, Jacob's friends and teachers.
Mr McKeeman said: "Jacob Marsden was an inspiration to many and his brave fight and loving nature will forever be remembered through the dedication of this space in his honour. It is hoped that students using this Seminar Room in the future will be motivated and inspired by a young man who used this space to achieve success and overcome great challenges."
