Term 3 English Curriculum - Year 9
In Term 3, your child will be studying a unit called 'Personal Stories', as part of the English curriculum. This unit commences Week 1 of Term 3 for the girls, and Week 6 of Term 3 for the boys. Students are expected to have finished reading their text before starting classes, in order to support their learning. Lessons will focus on discussion and skill development, and students are expected to have a base understanding of the text as preparation for these lessons.
Due to the large number of students who will require a biography or autobiography, and their varied interests, not all students can be accommodated by the College Library. Therefore, we are suggesting that your child may have to source a personal copy of a suitable biography or autobiography (several suggested titles are listed below). Students will have the opportunity to borrow from the College Library during the last week of term. However, if they cannot find a suitable book, then borrowing from a local library or purchasing (second-hand or new) are also options. When making your selection, please consider your child’s interests and reading ability.
Reading is a vital part of your child’s literacy development and we believe that a text, borrowed or purchased, is a sound investment in their future - and that reading over the holidays is a vital part of the continuing development of their skills.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
