Empowerment Program - Year 9 Girls
In the following weeks, the Year 9 Girls Empowerment Program will be focusing on the importance of looking after both our minds and our bodies. We aim to impart confidence and positive, useful tools to combat self-esteem, anxiety, negative influences and knowing your own body. We have invited a guest speaker who will take a 1hour session next Wednesday on mindfulness and a Youth Health Nurse to address issues impacting the health of our Girls. The Nurse will discuss physical, emotional and social concerns influencing the youth of today. Evidence suggests that despite the general standards of health improving in many sectors of the community, the general health of young people is declining. Key areas of concern include, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, sexually transmitted diseases and eating disorders.
Throughout the two sessions on Wednesday 9th and 16th August, the Youth Health Nurse will aim to cover respectful relationships, knowing and respecting your body, sexual health and risk taking behaviours. In addition, the session will increase students’ knowledge of local health services and give an introduction to Medicare.
If you have any questions in relation to these sessions, please contact the school on 52532998.
