United Nations Diplomacy Competition - Year 9
Last Friday, six Year 9 students from the Bellarine campus, along with twelve Year 9 students from the Highton campus, represented Christian College at a United Nations diplomacy competition at Deakin University. Students represented a country and acted as members of the United Nations Security Council for the day where they debated against other schools about global policies and resolutions. The aim of the experience was to educate young people about Australia’s place in the global political realm. It also promoted the development of a variety of skills including public speaking, negotiation, teamwork, research and diplomacy. Our Year 9 students were suitably challenged throughout the day and it proved to be a valuable opportunity for their learning. This experience has strong connections to the Year 9 Geography curriculum in Term 4 where the students who attended this event will be leading the rest of Year 9 through a mock United Nations summit.
