Junior School PE and Sport

Over the next two weeks many Year 3 and 4 students will be representing Christian College Geelong in two sporting events.

Next Tuesday, 15th August, we have 48 students participating in the 'Hoop Time' basketball tournament at The Arena. Junior School has five teams entered and there are six schools competing in games throughout the day.

Along with Mr Foran, Mr Johnstone and Mr Rice, we will also have experienced basketball personnel Nick Owusu and Brenton O’Brien coaching the teams. Over the past couple of weeks, the students have been training during Year 3 and 4 Sport. All participants have received information regarding the day and we wish the teams a fun experience.

On Thursday, 25th August, approximately 20 Year 4 students will be competing in the Deakin District Athletics event at Landy Field, Geelong. The events include 100 metres, 200 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, long and triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, hurdles and relay. Students participating in this day have been giving up lunchtimes and Year 3 and 4 Sport to train with specialist coaches Kelly Costin and Snezana Knight. We thank both Kelly and Snezana for giving up their time to come and help out with these students.

The Year 2 students have commenced their swimming program for this term. It is great to see the enthusiasm and positive attitude all students are having towards this program. Students are provided the opportunity to continue developing their swimming skills in small groups conducted by experience swimming teachers, as well as participating in fun and organised games with Nick Owusu and Jordan Rossi at the Middle School Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Finally, Prep, Years 1, 3 and 4 students have enthusiastically commenced their four-week gymnastics program, with Monday and Tuesday’s PE lessons being instructed by experienced gymnastics teacher, Mrs Kerry Woods from 'Head Over Heels' Gymnastics.
