Year 8 Science
Year 8 students have been learning in Science about the different systems found in our bodies.
As part of the curriculum, the students had an opportunity to dissect a sheep’s heart. With careful use of surgical tools, the students were able to identify the four chambers, feel the difference between thick, rubbery arterial walls and thin flimsy veins, see how valves allow the one-way flow and notice the thicker left side of the heart which has to pump blood to the whole body.
And the feedback? “It’s so small but pumps so much!…"
“That muscle is so thick – but there’s also a lot of fat…"
“I was really hesitant at first, but that was the best thing I have done in ages!”
