GISSA Soccer Championships

Our College competed at the Boys and Girls GISSA Soccer Championships this week, and all players are to be congratulated on their efforts in their respective College teams.

The Boys were well led by Captain Theo Ballis and they made the Final vs Kardinia IC. The Senior Boys played some good attacking football, but were beaten 0-4 by a very competent Kardinia outfit. The Intermediate Boys acquitted themselves very well against the other GISSA schools, only losing one game to eventual Champions, Kardinia, 1-3 in their Playoff game. The future looks very good for the College with the talent amongst our Year 10 Boys.

The Senior and Intermediate Girls teams were well coached on the day, adopting a defensive game plan against some strong opposition schools. The Inter Girls continued to develop as a team over the course of the day, winning their final game 4-3 against Clonard. The Senior Girls were unlucky not to make the Playoff game, after keeping eventual Champions, Kardinia, scoreless with only 20 seconds to play. Unfortunately, their Playoff dream was thwarted with a late goal from Kardinia. Again, our Senior Girls are to be congratulated on the way they improved with each game, and their enthusiasm and efforts on the day.

We would like to thank our Soccer Coaches for the great work they did in the lead-up to the Championships, and for their coaching efforts on the day – Mr Neaves, Mr Ellis, Mr Feldman, Mr Sullivan and Mr Breguet. We look forward to providing Soccer opportunities to our students again in 2018.
