Spotlight on Learning Support

Learning Support forms an integral part of the Junior School framework by supporting students in their individual learning journey.

The Learning Support Department assists students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Social Skills development.

The introduction of the 'MiniLit' Program this year is showing significant benefits to selected Year 1 and 2 students. This program aims to assist students in developing their phonemic awareness and decoding skills, in order to improve reading fluency and comprehension.

The 'Enhancement' Program, offered to a small group of targeted Year 2, 3 and 4 students, aims to develop students’ understanding of themselves as learners, and to give them an opportunity to think critically. Activities are designed to challenge students and require higher-order thinking skills, such as analysing, evaluating and creating.

Learning Support staff include: Mrs Ann-Marree Weigl (Coordinator), Mrs Vicki Arthurson, Mrs Jess Spicer, Mr Rowan Thurman, Mrs Jackie Golden (Speech Therapist) and Mrs Rhonda Brown.
