Global Food: Year 9 Geography and Food Technology Collaboration

To complement their learning experiences at the Back Creek Farm, this Term Year 9 Geography students have been exploring the level of 'food security' of a specific country.

Their task required them to research, prepare and serve a meal for their family that is commonly consumed in their allocated country. Students in the Food Technology elective were also given the opportunity as part of their curriculum to demonstrate good organisation, and an ability to skilfully, safely and hygienically prepare their meals for an authentic audience and context.

This meal was then served upon an informative placemat, through which they could express their new learning on topics, ranging from nutritional value, population growth and arable land, the import and export of commodities, challenges to food security and international food aid.
