'Fair Go Mate' Excursion - Year 3 and 4

On Wednesday this week, the Year 3 and 4 students took part in an exciting activity for their Integrated Studies Unit, ‘Fair Go Mate.’

Throughout this unit, they have been learning about rights and responsibilities, and how we can work together to help others in the community who are in a less-fortunate position than ourselves.

The students were privileged to hear from Marelle Jackman, a volunteer from ‘Geelong Mums.’ She shared with us a little about this organisation and how they are working hard to meet the needs of some people in the community. After learning about this community organisation, the students put their creative talents to work, making polar fleece baby blankets to donate to this wonderful cause. As you can see in the accompanying photos, they did a brilliant job of making these beautiful warm blankets that will be such a blessing to the children.

Another portion of the day was spent visiting the Salvation Army store in South Geelong, where the students were able to donate an item they had brought from home. They were also encouraged to bring money from home to enable them to do some shopping in the store and purchase a pre-loved item. They then had the fantastic opportunity to venture into the warehouse, where the store manager took them on a tour to show them the process of how the volunteers sort, price and display all of the donations that are given to the Salvation Army store. I’m sure we all found it fascinating!

The students represented our College in a spectacular manner. They displayed such generous and selfless hearts in their desire to give of their time, gifts and energy for others less fortunate in our community. We are very proud of each and every one of them.
