From the Principal: 2018 TERM DATES

The College Leadership regularly reviews our practices using data to inform our decision making.  In recent years we have noted a significant increase in student absences across all campuses during the final week of Term 2.  This winter term is often an 11 or 10.5 week term with many cases of recorded absences due to illness or planned family holiday breaks, prior to the official holiday period.

Our College has traditionally conducted classes for the first three days of the final week of term, dismissing students on the Wednesday afternoon.  We have then commenced the annual Staff Retreat that evening, running through until the end of that week. Our attendance data also revealed that the increasing level of absences during the final 3 days at the end of Term 2 was disruptive to many planned classroom activities and programs.

In response to the review of our attendance data, we have amended the end date for Term 2 in 2018, creating a 3 week break for our students and families in the middle of the year. Staff will attend the annual ‘Retreat’ during the following week, prior to taking holidays. The dates have been confirmed as follows:

2018 Term Dates

Term 1                                    Tuesday 30th January for Year 12 Students only
Wednesday 31st January to Thursday 29th March

Term 2                                   Tuesday 17th April to Friday 22nd June

Term 3                                    Tuesday 17th July to Friday 21st September

Term 4                                    Tuesday 9th October to Friday 7th December

As part of this review we also noted that the introduction of ‘In-Time Reporting’ has allowed us to gain an additional day back in our program, which would have usually been set aside for an Assessment Day.

Our after school hours care provider, Camp Australia, will offer School Holiday Programs for families wishing to use this service for their children during the mid-year break in 2018.

In making this change for 2018, I do ask parents to respect the set term dates and avoid making holiday plans and bookings outside of this time.
