Year 2 Students Explore Their Local Community

In Integrated Studies, the Year 2 students have been exploring the topic ‘Our Local Community’.

We have been focusing on the essential questions ‘What is a Community?’ and ‘What are the characteristics or parts that make up a Community?’ On Monday of this week the Year 2 students went on an excursion to Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre to investigate the goods and services that are offered in this Centre.

The children had the opportunity to use their money skills to make purchases and calculate change. They also visited the Post Office where they purchased a stamp and posted a letter that they had written to a family friend or relative.

We then headed into Central Geelong where we enjoyed a delicious lunch in Johnstone Park, followed by a walk down to the Waterfront for a play on the amazing adventure playground. We finished the day with a visit and tour of the newly-refurbished Geelong Library and Observation Deck, which allowed us to take in some of the spectacular sights, historical landmarks and buildings in Geelong.

A great day was had by all!
