Giving a Hand in STEAM

During recent STEAM lessons, the Year 3 the students were focusing on movement.

One of the tasks was to look at the way the hand moves and replicate this using cardboard, straws and string. The students studied their hands and noticed that the fingers bent at the joints and there were bones in between.

Once they cut out a hand from cardboard they bent it where their finger joints would be. Then they glued small straws for the bones in each of their fingers and for their hands. They threaded string through each of the straws and then they were able to create movement in the fingers by pulling on the strings.
