Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships
Sophie Taylor represented Christian College Geelong in the Victorian Interschool State Team last week at the 2017 Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships in Toowoomba, Queensland.
Sophie and her pony Raven Lodge Aura finished as 'Reserve Champions' for Intermediate Novice Dressage, finishing 2nd place in Australia.
Please read a reflection from Sophie about her experience:
My experience at Nationals is definitely one I will never forget. It took a lot of effort, preparation and time just to make it possible to make it to Toowoomba safely - as well as all of the hours spent training to qualify and represent Victoria. However, once we made it up there, the experience I had was invaluable. One of the highlights of the competition was the Opening Ceremony, held on the Monday afternoon before the event commenced on Tuesday. I can’t even begin to put into words how special it was to have everyone there to support me on Tuesday, and to wish me luck before my two Dressage tests and three Show workouts. At first, I was terrified that I would forget the movements I was to perform in front of the judges, but that instantly faded away when I saw everyone there to support me. To to ride at such a high-level competition was such an honour and one that I feel has helped me grow as a rider. After I had finished riding, it was so enjoyable to be able to spend the rest of the week up there cheering on the rest of the team and my closest friends. I was lucky enough to be named 'Reserve Champion' for the Intermediate Novice Dressage. I was also very lucky to have placed 7th for my secondary rider class. Team Victoria did exceptionally well, placing 3rd overall, with all single rider’s points going towards Victoria's overall score.
